I was really impressed with the quality of programming at Webelos in the Woods 2009 for Highland Rim. There were some really great teachers. Despite the chill and the overcast sky, the boys were really into learning, too. Thanks, everyone, for teaching my son. I was very proud to be a part of it all!

Several volunteers went out and scouted the island. It is very overgrown (bring bug spray), but holds LOTS of promise! We didn't see any snakes while we were there, but we did see a few turtles as we viewed the banks. There is an intriguing inlet where we found lots of little critter prints, such as raccoons. There's lots of work to be done clearing the underbrush and such, and several ideas were put forth about how to handle that task. There are a couple of places that look good for campsites, and a couple of small beach areas. Some of the Webelos accompanied us, and had a great time playing in the water as we explored.

Dan Cook was able to have some signs printed up, and he posted these around the island as we trekked along. The signs declare the island a "Pack 126 Service Project Area".

Incidentally, the trip on the Blue Heron Cruise boat was wonderful and the weather was perfect!

I'm sure a report will be presented to the Pack Committee in the near future, and our intrepid island explorers will be hatching plans for clearing and cleaning up and utilizing this great opportunity!

(look for photos on the Pack Website soon!)

According to Emanuel,

This year, due to scheduling issues and such, it has been determined that any activities the boys do for July that can be counted off in their rank books will be accepted as going towards the Summertime Pack Award.

Some more information for those going to the game.

Rules:
-Stadium lights will be turned out at 1am, all tents must be off the field by 7am Sunday morning.

-All stadium gates will be locked; with the exception of the 3rd base gate, please see below. If you need to exit the ballpark, please go to the front office for help. The front office is on the 2nd level of the stadium. A full time staff member will be available in the front office all night.

-The picnic for the night will be in the brand new Plaza Picnic area located by the front gate, the picnic will run from 4:30 PM to 6:30PM.

-No fires of any sort are permitted on the field or in the stadium as a whole.

-No tent stakes!

** A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR THIS NIGHT***
-You must have your game ticket to get into the picnic area, so make sure EVERYONE keeps their ticket stub.

-Keep all camping equipment and snacks in your car until after the game and fireworks are over. You will not be allowed to bring any of this stuff into the ballpark during the game. (Snacks for the camp out are allowed, but will not be allowed into the ballpark until the game is over)!

-Once the game is over we will have everyone enter through the 3rd base gate, and exit via the 3rd base gate in the morning. The 3rd base gate will remain open all night.

- Certain areas will be marked off for the campers. Please do not go beyond the boundaries set. We are trying to protect our unused part of the field on this night.

***Items that Will Not be allowed during the camp out or on the field****
Knives or Guns
Stoves
Matches/Lighters
Chewing Gum

Cub-O-Ree was a bit soggy this year, but the boys got to play some football and learn some 'survival skills', and hey, we won Best Campsite, thanks to a new friend we met there and the Webelos I's and their terriffic Gateway!
