BSA Camp Rules

As a reminder, here are some Boy Scouts of America Camp Site Rules

• No Smoking in front of the youth (there will be designated smoking areas)
• No Pets allowed on Boxwell Reservation
• No Propane heaters in tents
• Only Married Couples may share a tent
• Vehicles must be parked in the designated parking area
• No RV’s or Campers will be allowed in Scout Camping Area. No Bikes, Skateboards, Scooters or ATV’s allowed.
• One campfire per Pack allowed (in a raised fire pit.)
• For tents – stakes only – no holes.

Other Information

The Pack will be providing the meals for this campout. We will prepare our meals together on Sat. (3 meals) and Sun. breakfast. Please eat before you come on Friday. If you have any dietary issues please contact Ginger Wilson. If you have need of electrical access for medical equipment such as a CPap machine please let Garry Walden know. Any questions or concerns please contact Emanuel Loreant.

If you haven’t already registered, please let your den leader know as soon as possible that you’d like to attend. Then, download and fill out the Cub N Family Registration Form and bring it to your next den meeting.

The Fall Camporee was great this weekend at the TSU Farm Property off of River Road near Ashland City.  The Emergency, Fire, and Police Exhibits were awesome.  The boys had a great time.  The camporee was attended by 10 troops in Highland Rim, which is a great turn out.

Special Thanks goes to Ray Crouch Gary Wilkerson, Kim Wilkerson, Kenyon Dupre, and Troop 594 for their hard work and putting the camporee together.  Great Job!

Webelos Woods had a awesome program this weekend.  Webelos Woods had over 12 packs this weekend in attendance, including packs from other districts.  The boys had a great  time learning boy scout skills and getting their first taste of boy scout camping.

Special Thanks goes to Gary Bass for his hard work with putting Webelos Woods together.  I also want to thank Vince Beech and Pack 126 for helping with the program for Webelos Woods.  Special Thanks also goes to Wayne Reid, Joe Webb, Jennifer Eusler, and all the other adults that helped with teaching/training at  Webelos Woods. Great Job!

We all had a great time! It’s definitely something that every Cub Scout should attend as you prepare to cross over to Boy Scouts.

Get ready for some serious camping. Webelos in the Woods focus exclusively on the skills you’ll need to know as you prepare to crossover from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts. You won’t want to miss this fun and action filled camp out.

What a great turn out on Thursday! We talked a little about what was in store this year, received our binders and homework, and got our POPCORN forms!

The most exciting thing that the Webelos I group did was decide on a patrol name. We will now be known as the Ninjas! Unbeknownest to the boys, they did it in democratic fashion…suggestions, discussion, and a vote.

We will be meeting next Thursday at 7pm. Look forward to more e-mails from me!

Pack 126 does camping right

This year, we’re planning some fun adventures for the scouts. We’ve got a camping trip planned for later this month.

And the Raingutter Regatta scheduled for later this fall is always a big hit.

In light of these circumstances we will delay our Scout service cruise until a few of us leaders recon the area after our meeting on the 15th (any volunteers?). If all is OK we will probably return to the island with the Pack in September (after reptile breeding season).

Our first and second year Webelos just got back from Resident Camp in Boxwell Scout Reservation. They had a wonderful time!

It all started off on Monday morning when we arrived at Gaylord Cub World. We eagerly checked in and found our camp site. Our new home away from home was Camp Site #9. It was a secluded area that was a surrounded by woods and the sounds of the great out doors. After unpacking and securing our gear in our tents we went for our swim tests.

At 2:00pm we gathered for a tour of the Camp Stahlman. That’s where the Boy Scouts camp. We saw their dining hall, talked with the life guards at the water front, and visited the Conservation Yard. We’re looking forward to going there when our Webs cross-over into a troop.

On Tuesday, the Webelos I’s began working on their rank work. Over the course of the next two days, they worked hard to earned their Citizenship, Readyman, Handyman, and Outdoorsman Merit Badges.  They are now well on their way to earning rank. Way to go guys!

The Webelos II’s learned Scout Skills, the skills they’ll need not only through their Boy Scout years, but skills that will help them during the course of their lives. They were in Patrol One and learned Fire Safety, Map & Compass Skills, Knots & Lashings, and First Aid.

Of course we had some free time during the trip to do some site seeing and a little fishing. Marshall caught his first fish. The scouts also had a grand time playing on the castle, pirate ship, and fort.

We took several trips to the Cub World and Stahlman trading posts where all sorts of goodies were for sale. Pocket knives, ice cream, and even jester hats caught our attention.

The Scouts also visited the obstacle course that Mr. Dan and Mr. Joe helped to renovate during a Service Project as part of their Wood Badge training this spring.

One of the highlights to our trip was the last night’s campfire. There were lots of skits put on by the Boy Scouts that staff the Resident Camp. You’ll have to ask some of the boys about the skits – “The Suitor of the Princess” and the “If I weren’t a Webelo” song. Some of the other Packs put together their own skits to entertain us as well.

But the best part of the camp fire is the grand finale where our country’s brave veterans are honored for their service and a tattered American flag is respectfully retired.

After we broke camp on Thursday morning, we decided to take an impromptu self-guided tour of Camp Craig, another active Boy Scout camp on the reservation.

From the looks of the boys on our way home, they had a great time and a looking forward to another time when they can visit Boxwell. In the meantime, I think we’ll get some well deserved rest!

May 23rd – Flag Placement at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Pegram
Pack 126 is joining in with other Scouts from around the Middle Tennessee area to honor our country’s veterans by placing flags on their grave sites in memory of their service to our great country. Come join us. More information may be found here.

June 14th – Scout Sunday at Faith Community Church of the Nazarene
The Scouts that completed the “God & Me” and the “God & Family” classes this spring will be recognized and receive awards during the 10:30 am worship service at Faith Community Church of the Nazarene. For directions, click here. For more information about the church, visit its web site.

July 18th – Scout Saturday at the Nashville Zoo
Come visit the Nashville Zoo for a day of fun and adventure that’s been especially designed for Cub Scouts. Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos will enjoy walking through one of the nation’s premier zoos while earning their achievements and merit badges. August 8th – Scout Clean-up Cruise
Take a cruise on the Blue Heron to an island in the middle of the river for a summer service project. We’ll do our part to keep Ashland City beautiful by picking up litter and cleaning up the island. Come ready for fun and service to our fellow citizens.

If you’re looking for some more excitement, there are other activities that you can participate in. Although not official Pack activities (they don’t count toward your summertime participate patch), they’ll be fun and lots of us there.

May 23rd – Hike through Hidden Lakes Park with Troop 594
The Webelos have been invited by Troop 594 to join them in a day hike through Hidden Lakes Park. We’ll leave shortly after the Flag Placement Ceremony for a 2-3 mile hike through the woods. We’ll even have lunch on the trail. Open to all Webelos.

June 6th – Scout Night at the Nashville Super Speedway
Join the racing excitement at the Nashville Super Speedway at special rate for Scouts. The cost of admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. These prices include a Pepsi and a hotdog. Call Jud Pyatt at 615-547-7217 for more information.

June 15th – 19th – Cub Scout Day Camp at Montgomery Bell State Park
Five days of Scouting activities is a wonderful way to start the summer! If you haven’t signed up this year’s Summer Day Camp at Montgomery Bell State Park, you’ll want to soon before space runs out. For more information, click here. Bus rides from Ashland City will be available.

July 6th – 9th – Webelos Resident Camp at Boxwell Reservation
Join Mr. Dan and Mr. Joe as they lead the Webelos on a 4 day adventure at Boxwell Scout Reservation. This camp is unlike any other you’ve attended. At the end of the 4 day trip, you’ll not only walk away having earned many merit badges, but you have made great memories and friends along the way.

August 1st – Scout Night with the Nashville Sounds at Camp Greer
Join Scouts from around the Middle Tennessee Council as we watch America’s national pastime, baseball. The Nashville Sounds will take on theAlbuquerque Isotopes. Each Scout will receive lower section reserved seating, a scout patch, a pre-game all-you-can-eat picnic, a $6 souvenir voucher, and an opportunity to spend the night on the baseball field. It’s lots of fun! The cost is $25 per person.

In the Cub Scout Promise, a boy promises to do his best to do his duty to God and his country, to help other people, and to obey the Law of the Pack.

There are many ways we can live out the Promise on a daily basis. And one of them is to honor those men and women of the armed services who have given freely of themselves in defense of our great country.

For the past six years, the Cub Scouts in middle Tennessee have honored our nation’s veterans by placing United States flags on the graves of veterans on Memorial Day. It’s a way to remember those who have fought and perhaps even died for our freedom. It also serves to let the current armed services personnel and their families know that we truly appreciate their great service to our country.

Last year, Pack 126 helped to adorn the graves of over 9,000 veterans at the Veterans Cementery in Pegram, Tennessee. And we’re planning to go back and do it again this year. So make your plans now to join us.

Freedom is not free. So, let’s make sure to let those brave men and women and their family know that we appreciate them.

It’ll be a good time that you will remember for years to come and it will mean a lot to those who have a loved one serving in the military.

What do I wear? To honor the veterans, we’ll wear our field uniforms, also known as our Class A uniforms.

Do I need to register ahead of time? No, just show up at 7:30am on the morning of the flag placement ceremony. To help us know who to expect, please let you den leader know that you plan to attend.

Is there any costs? No, this is free and the flags will be provided.
