About Cub Scouts

In Cub Scouts, boys have fun while they learn skills that will last them a lifetime. Additionally, they build character as they are surrounded by boys and adult leaders who adhere to and promote the Cub Scout ideals.

Cub Scout Ranks

The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.

Bobcat. The Bobcat rank is the first rank obtained by all boys who join Cub Scouting, regardless of age.

Tiger Cub. The Tiger Cub program is for first-grade boys. Tiger Cubs work with their adult partners to on five areas of achievements that include a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that are just right for first graders.

Wolf. The Wolf program is for boys who have completed first grade. Earning the Wolf badge involves 12 achievements, exercising the boys’ physical and mental skills.

Bear. The Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade. Once a Cub Scout has completed 12 of the 24 possible Bear achievements, he has earned the Bear badge.

Webelos. The Webelos program is for boys who have completed third grade and is designed to help boys transition into Boy Scouts. Typically a boy will remain a Webelo for two years. As he completes achievements, he will eventually receive the Arrow of Light Award, the highest award available to a Cub Scout.

Cub Scouting Ideals

In addition to the fun and games of Cub Scout activities, boys learn the ideals of Scouting – the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute. These are all designed teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy’s sense of belonging.

Colors

The Cub Scouting colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning, which will help boys see beyond the fun of Cub Scouting to its ultimate goals.

  • The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above.
  • The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.
